Family:  Harpagiferidae (Spiny plunderfishes)
Max. size:  8.2 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; depth range 0 - 91 m
Distribution:  Southern Ocean: Kerguelen and Crozet Islands; littoral and deeper waters of Heard Island.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-5; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-24; Anal soft rays: 15-19
Biology:  Found under rocks on the beach or in tide pools, but may also be found deeper (down to 80 m) among kelp and other algae (Ref. 5191). Feed on small crustaceans and common in littoral of all sub-Antarctic islands (Ref. 42041).
